The OpenShift Atomic Cluster uses OpenShift Origin, the upstream opens source fork of the Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform (OCP).

The containerized Origin masters, etcd, the
nodes and the Traefik Ingress Controller (or edge router ) or the optional F5 Kubernetes Big-IP Controller are all running on CentOS 7 Atomic virtual machines (VM) on KVM hosts. Digital Certificates are automatically installed and renewed for any Internet-exposed services using the Let's Encrypt (LE) ACME Protocol.

Traefik Load Balancer

The OpenShift Atomic Cluster deployment delivers a hyper-converged solution. The designated, or labeled. storage nodes host the 'gluster-centos' pods that also co-reside with other application pods to provide the ultimate in hardware utilization. The GlusterFS Cluster is managed by Heketi.

Containerized F5 Big-IP Controller
The F5 Kubernetes BIG-IP Controller configures BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) objects for applications in the OpenShift Atomic Cluster (OAC) , serving North-South traffic.
The F5 Application Services Proxy (ASP) provides load balancing and telemetry for containerized applications, serving East-West traffic.
Let's Encrypt digital certificates are automatically installed on Virtual Servers on the Big-IP LTM.
Heketi provides a RESTful management interface which can be used to manage the life cycle of GlusterFS volumes. With Heketi, cloud services like OpenStack, Kubernetes, and OpenShift Origin can dynamically provision GlusterFS volumes with any of the supported durability types. Heketi will automatically determine the location for bricks across the cluster, making sure to place bricks and its replicas across different failure domains. Heketi also supports any number of GlusterFS clusters, allowing cloud services to provide network file storage without being limited to a single GlusterFS cluster.
